Our Mission
Hap House was organized by the community council in 1976, to meet the needs of the severely physically disabled, mentally challenged, emotionally disturbed, blind and deaf individuals who could not fit into the organized programs in the community. Hap House is committed to helping disabled individuals recognize their full potential and strive for their goals.
The Need for Hap House
Hap House was founded in 1976 to serve severely disabled members of military families who lived on Barksdale Air Force Base and off the base in nearby communities. At the time, there were no schools in the North Louisiana area that enrolled disabled students. Initially, HAP House provided services for the disabled members of the military families who lived on base or in the outside community. Eventually, HAP House began accepting disabled members of civilian families as well.

HAP House on Barksdale Air Force Base
HAP House has resided on Barksdale Air Force Base ever since it founded. Its leaders see HAP House as an integral part of its community and an important connection to people who live outside the base. HAP House, in turn, gives Barksdale personnel the opportunity to realize the contributions even individuals with severe disabilities can make to society. It also showcases Barksdale's philanthropy and important community outreach.
Barksdale AFB is the only military installation that allows a program like Hap House to operate on its premises.
The Barksdale Officers' Spouses Club (BOSC) has long supported Hap House with fundraising events and delighting Hap House folks with their annual Christmas party. Hap House clients play Bingo, sing Christmas carols, and eat the lunch BOSC volunteers bring to them. It culminates with a visit from Santa Claus, who gives gifts to the clients and staff members.
